Topographical maps below each set of waveforms show differences in scalp distribution between known and novel words across the training trials. Bar graphs below each panel show the mean amplitude of each ERP obtained for known words and for novel words across the training blocks. For the P200 time window, pair-wise comparisons revealed that mean activity elicited by control and novel words differed at the first trial but became similar already at the second exposure of novel words and was maintained throughout the rest of the training. However, for the N400 time window, pair-wise comparisons revealed that lexical differences emerged after the second exposure with novel word-forms and were maintained across the rest of training trials
